The Hatchet Story
Our Lineage
The history of Hatchet’s story and logo begin long before the beloved trend of craft beer and microbreweries - all the way back to the Vietnam War. There, small groups of Green Berets partnered with teams of indigenous Vietnamese soldiers to conduct covert missions in Laos, Cambodia, and North Vietnam, acting as a strike force for reconnaissance operations and locating missing/captured American serviceman. These teams were know as Hatchet Forces, and, to honor their legacy, special forces Operational detachment - alpha (SFODA) 3331 continued to carry "the patch" as it's team symbol on combat deployments throughout Afghanistan and Africa. It was a stark reminder that no success is ever achieved alone – it takes a team.
Founded in Brewing
Our owners, Greg and Mike, met while Greg was in Special Forces training and Mike was the Senior Operations Sergeant Major of the 82nd Airborne Division. Both quickly bonded over their love of brewing, as well as their shared experiences and values from their service in the military. Together, they spent two years blending these passions, preparing a taproom made for community, filling out endless paperwork, and perfecting their recipes. Finally, in November 2019 Hatchet Brewery opened – a place rooted in friendship, genuine and selfless relationships, and damn good craft beer.
